art club field trip to KMAC

The Meyzeek Art Club visited the Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft, where we saw two exhibitions “Searching for the Heart of Black Identity” and “Scholastic Regional Gold Key Award Winners” (which featured several Meyzeek artists’ work!)  We also participated in a workshop on identity using clay as our medium.

have a great winter break!

Student artwork is on its way home!  We’re wrapping up some last minute projects, taking photos, and having some fun with the last week of school.  It’s been a wonderful semester and I will miss my Fall ’09 classes very much and I wish my students the best of luck in their new related arts courses.  I’m also excited to meet the new group of students who will be joining me in the spring.  Have a safe and wonderful winter break, everyone!!

guest artist

Ms. Neumayer’s 4th and 5th period classes have been working on a special fiber art project with a guest artist…………Mrs. Neumayer (Ms. Neumayer’s mom!!!) Mrs. Neumayer is a retired art teacher and a professional artist who is a member of the Pyro Gallery in downtown Louisville.  She’s generously donated her time, skills, and materials to Meyzeek students over the past week.

6th graders have been working with photo transfer stitchery projects and 7th graders have been working on wallhangings inspired by the myth of the Green Man.  It’s been funny to have “two generations of Neumayer” (as one student put it) working in the classroom together.

clay!!!!

It’s been everyone’s favorite time of the semester in art class: CLAY!  6th graders have been working on clay animals made from pinch pots, 7th graders have been working on making coiled vessels, and 8th graders have made slab boxes.  Here’s a preview.  We are still waiting for all of the greenware to be fired, before students will glaze or paint their projects.
